AMCC welcomed Heather C. Ohaneson, Ph.D., as our Bridge Pastor in September 2021.

Active in ministries throughout the Armenian Evangelical community and a longtime member of the Armenian Evangelical Church of New York, Badveli Heather comes to the work of pastor as a scholar and a teacher. A descendent of ancestors from Harput and Constantinople, she considers her  Armenian heritage to be very important – as evidenced by her involvement in organizations including the AMAA (board member since 2015), AEUNA, Camp Arevelk, and other Armenian Evangelical entities.

Badveli Heather received her Bachelor’s degree in philosophy and religion at Barnard College and her Master’s and Ph.D. in the philosophy of religion at Columbia University. She also completed additional study at Yale Divinity School, Princeton Theological Seminary and Union Theological Seminary. She has had extensive experience as a teacher, serving as a professor in the Honors Program at the School of Theology at George Fox University; she has also taught Biblical studies at Azusa Pacific University.

We met Badveli Heather at an important juncture in her professional and spiritual life, when she was committed to shifting from a distinguished career as a scholar of religion and philosophy to becoming an ordained pastor. While she is not yet ordained, the depth and breadth of her theological study, along with her many years of involvement in the Armenian Evangelical community as teacher, preacher, leader, and active church member, provide a solid foundation for completing the UCC ordination process while pastoring AMCC. As part of the ordination process, Badveli Heather is currently taking courses toward an M.Div. at Princeton Theological Seminary.

We are blessed to have Badveli Heather as our Bridge Pastor, and for the opportunity for our church to play an active role in bringing a new Armenian American pastor – especially with the talents, experience and heart that Badveli Heather brings – into the Armenian Evangelical community!
