April 26, 2020 – Armenian Martyrs’ Sunday
WELCOME – In this virtual worship service, we commemorate Armenian Martyrs’ Day – a day of remembrance for the more than 1.5 million Armenians who died in 1915 in Ottoman Turkey. Whether you are worshiping at home alone or with your family, we hope you will experience a sense of connection with other AMCC members, our extended family, and online visitors as they worship with you.
We are grateful to our Pastor Emeritus, Rev. Dr. Peter B. Doghramji, for leading us in our worship today, as well as our readers and the AMCC choir.
PREPARING for WORSHIP – Whether using your computer, tablet, or smart phone, we suggest that you find a quiet, comfortable space in your home that allows you to be fully present in the spirit of worship.
Before you begin, please take a moment to read some tips on how to best navigate our interactive program format:
As you follow the Order of Worship below, you will see portions that are video- or audio-taped, read silently or aloud together, or offer a time for quiet reflection or prayer. You can go at your own pace (and you can go back watch any of the video segments again).
To access the videos and audios, click on the hyperlink next to the program listing. Make sure your sound is turned on and the volume high enough for you to hear well. You may wish to click the full screen icon for better viewing. When the video ends, close the video screen to return to the Order of Worship.

9 When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained.10 They called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?”11 Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the full number of their fellow servants, their brothers and sisters, were killed just as they had been.
1 Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance.2 So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!”
3 So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb.4 Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first.5 He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in.6 Then Simon Peter who was behind him arrived and went into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there,7 as well as the burial cloth that had been around Jesus’ head. The cloth was folded up by itself, separate from the linen.8 Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed.9 (They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.)
Sermon – How Long, O Lord! (video):https://youtu.be/iqPDN_538oo Due to technical difficulties, the final sentences of the sermon were cut off. But here they are in print:
[…in a way we could] turn evil into good. How long, O Lord, how long. The answer is within us as long as we do His will; as long as Christ is within us, the question is turned towards us. How long, how long!
Affirmation of Faith – Apostles’ Creed (read silently or aloud):
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
